Granted, I din watch the whole series. The show started from 25 November. I think I started watching it sum time in mid-December. I did watch sum tapings of the older episodes from my wife’s recorder so I was able to piece mos of the story together. But from reading sum posts, it seems if you started from the beginning, you could foretell sum of the ending.
They say its the mos watched chinese serial in 15 years. Hell, it mus hav the worst ending! The last 30 minutes was boring. Wat an anti-climax after the roller coaster ride of the past few weeks. Firstly, Yueniang and Chen Xi din get together. Wat a disappointment. Worse still, Chen Xi went thru the rest of his life believing a lie tat Yueniang was burnt to bits. If she died would there not been a funeral? Wat was tat about? Secondly, why muz Yueniang die in the end? Couldn’t she have lived on as a hapi, contented old lady? Wif many grandchildren? Haha, does Mediacorpse scriptwriters hav any sense of drama? Any sense of a conclusive, good positive ending? Maybe they dun noe how to end a show!
Why am I so worked up? Cos after spending all my evenings watching the show, the ending is so krap! The ending was anti-climax. The star-crossed lovers dun get together. The star of the show died. Haha. Joke man. Anyway, its all ended now. My evenings can go back to normal, especially Mondays where they show it for 2 hours. The show makes it like being a peranakan was tuff. Everybody ending up wif wrong life partners. I wonder if its true.
I think the show as a whole was good but the ending, as I said was absolute krap! Even if you try not to dissect the show too much, the ending was such a disappointment you hav to question the credibility of Mediacorpse shows as a spectacle. So I’m glad I dun watch mos of them. I read there’s a video set out. But the bad ending makes yer think twice. The actors I thot did well to giv the show a good flavour. But the ending kills it man! Giv me futball anyday la…the ending may be bad but you dun get a bad after-taste.
